Props
As Props lead or team member, you gather and source all the items handled by actors during a show, all within the budget provided by the Producer. Some props are already with RAPA, but some will need to be bought or made. This role is great for creative and resourceful folks. Most of the work is done on your own time but a few rehearsals and production meetings will need to be attended.
Responsibilities
During rehearsals:
Read the script and make a list of props.
Consult with Director for changes/additions to the list.
Attend a few rehearsals to consult with Director on style of items. Also, see how props will be used.
Collaborate with Costume Designer and Set Dresser regarding items that may overlap.
Check the theatre storage.
Source items from cast, crew, etc. Consult Producer before purchasing items. Keep lists on where items are borrowed/sourced.
Ensure all props are approved by Director and that actors are comfortable with them.
If consumables (i.e., drinks, food), make sure tastes, scents, allergies are taken into consideration. Ensure enough is purchased for replenishment.
Give list of props and scenes they are used to Stage Manager.
During the show:
Welcome to volunteer back stage and keep props organized or help where Stage Manager welcomes it.
After the show:
Return borrowed items accordingly.
